  • April 30, 2009 — Toby Keith completed his seventh USO tour of the Middle East this week after playing a whopping 15 shows in just five days. That segment of the trip came to a close Tuesday after what proved to be Toby’s riskiest visit yet.

'The boys and girls were rockin' and laughin' like never before,' Toby wrote in a blog. 'I've never seen them as energetic. That being said, the danger factor was at an all-time high. Not since my early trips to Iraq have we been escorted in by gunships as often as we were on this visit. Thank you, Cobras and Apaches. Thanks to all our bird teams for the rides.'

Toby wrote a new song, 'The Ballad Of Balad,' and if it follows down the same road as 'American Soldier,' it might well have a big future. 'Soldier' was penned after his first Middle East visit, drawing on his memories of meeting the troops and attending a memorial ceremony for another.

'Those kinds of things just bore into your soul,' he told the American Forces Press Service. 'I would have never been able to complete ‘American Soldier’ if it weren’t for the experiences I had.'

When Toby gets back to the U.S., he’ll have yet another I Love This Bar & Grille franchise in progress. According to the Associated Press, he’s opening a 650-restaurant at Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills, Mich. The menu includes the American Soldier burger, free to service men and women with a valid military ID.

  • Big and Rich ~ '8th of November'
November 8th, 1965 the 173rd Airborne Brigade On Operation Hump, War Zone D in Vietnam, were ambushed by over 1200 Viet Cong. 48 American soldiers lost their lives that day.
Severely wounded, and risking his own life, Lawrence Joll, a medic, was the first living black man since the Spanish-American War to receive the United States Medal of Honor for savings so many lives in the midst of battle that day.
Our friend, Niles Harris, retired 25 years, United States Army, the guy who gave Big Kenny his tophat, was one of the wounded who lived. This song is his story...

The Coalition of Troop Support is a group of local citizens and businesses who assist military people from Oregon and Washington and their families.
Our coalition combined several previously independent groups who now combine efforts, reducing duplications.
By combining efforts we hope to give citizens more easy-to-find ideas, and ways to lend a hand.

Everything we do is driven by the guiding force to provide COMFORT & SNACK Kits to our Military gone from Oregon & Washington. To assist their Families and have Communities come together in Support of them. Not just while they're gone, but when they return as well. As with ALL good things it will take all of us to make it happen.

  • Arlington is sung from a soldiers point of view, where he says 'I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property,' and 'I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington.' Truly an amazing song. It pays tribute to soldiers that have lost their lives.

  • There are some great songs on this compilation CD. It is a well-rounded selection of old and new song favorites. And the artists range from living legend Merle Haggard to the first Nashville Star winner, Buddy Jewell. It is an excellent CD to plug in for your summer parties. It is a great road trip CD, or just enjoying it while you are working around the house. It is a good addition to any CD collection.
